I have a Gateway E6610D case (must be made in 2006) and now I got an MSI B75A-G41, but I've been told not to plug the usb wires to avoid shorting or smth. They offered to sell me a new case.
i can still use use rear usbs right?
what is this all about?
Your manual should show you a schematic of showing how the case USB connector pins are oriented, so that you don't plug it in incorrectly.check your manual.
stagger, that front usb ports connector of the case, does it have 2 rows of 4 or 5 pins? what are the colors of the wires that are in that connector? do you have access or can borrow a multi-meter?

on the connector and also on the header(on mother board) one of the pins has been omitted. You must line the header and connector up correctly, as shown below, before you plug the connector in.
