I am asking for help in resolving the failure of wireless networking to install in my laptop. I have provided as much detail as I can in the following information on the issue.

I just reinstalled Windows 7 Home premium in my Toshiba Satellite model C655D-S5515. None of my network adapters installed. In device manager it showed no network adapter and under other devices ethernet controller plus network controller with yellow warning marks. Properties showed unknown devices and indicated that drivers could not be found.

I went to Toshiba support and downloaded drivers for ethernet and for Realtek Wlan (see below). Qualcomm Atheros network adapter installed properly. Realtek did not. I keep getting error messages un startup that driver could not be installed. The realtek hardware does not show up in devices or when I run Belarc. In fact Belarc also does not show the Atheros network adapter either.

Toshiba provided these driver options. I TC50131900E (Atheros network driver) TC50123500D (Realtek Wlan driver) tca0146100b (Athertos Wlan driver).

Toshiba Realtek driver specs: File: TC50123500D.exe Version: 2007.2.0720.2012 Release Date: 2012-08-20 Description: RTL8723AE: 2007.3.0809.2012 RTL8188CE: 2007.3.0809.2012

PLEASE NOTE: The last thing I attempted was to install the Atheros Wlan driver guessing that the failure of Realtek was due to the wirless hardware being from Atheros not Realtek. Same result at end of install - driver not found.
Also, The backup restore copy of Windows 7 and Toshiba programs was inaccesable when my original system locked up in normal mode (no device failure warnings in device mgr), therefore I reinstalled from a Windows 7 CD disk.

Solution
Problem solved. Finally. Between searches, here and Toshiba support I found a way to determine the brand of wireless. That is through start - system information. navigate to problem devices and find the vendor and device information. On pci vendor page the answer is given. In this case the wireless did turn out to be Realtek. I then found I could enable windows update to install the drivers if they could not be found. I uninstalled the Atheros since I was concerned I might have the wrong device drivers. Update installed Atheros in the ethernet controller and Realtek in wireless. That sure beats all the downloading and trying different drivers. I am sending this reply from the Realtek wireless with the TP-link disabled. I will...

There's only one brand of adapter in your laptop (sounds like it's the Atheros).

Toshiba supplies more than one because there may be different network devices in different laptops.

Installing more than the one you need can cause issues.

You also list a TP link wireless adapter... did you try installing drivers for it?

The TP-link wireless is a thumb drive. I did uninstall it when I first attempted to add the realtek WLAN. When I attempted again after installing the Atheros ethernet I did not uninstall the TP-link. I did notice that Toshiba listed both Atheros and Realtek for Wlan drivers. Device manager does not reveal what hardware for wireless is installed. I presumed it was Realtek because of the Realtek wlan driver folder in my Windowsold files. And there is no Atheros listed in Windows old.

Since installing the Atheros network ethernet adapter I still have a yellow warning at other devices - network controller. It does not list as any brand, just unknown. It shows the driver as missing and driver provider as unknown. There is only the tp-link wireless under network adapters. It of course goes away when I unplug the usb drive it is on. So no I am not good on wireless lan.

g90814: the tp-link is all install ed and works fine. It is not part of my system. Third party usb program. I'm not sure what you mean by only one network adapter. Ethernet and wireless show as separate adapters.
