hello guys! first i wanna say thank you for taking your time to help me out. So im transitioning from one pc to another. the one im transfering to doesnt have windows 7 on it. so i just put my hard drive from the old one with all my files and windows 7 on it and thought it would work but i was wrong. its stuck at this bios screen that states "strike the f1 key to continue, f2 to run the setup utility'. i tried both, the f1 brings me back to the same screen and the f2 is just the setup. Soooooo, Im currently downloading a windows 7 iso to my laptop and im going to create a bootable cd and use my product key from my old computer to reinstall windows to this computer. So to my questions, why doesnt the windows 7 on my hard drive work? also, will my theory work if i burn a bootable disk? (i lost my original) and last one, will i beable to save all my stuff on my hard drive if / when i reinstall windows 7? thank you again

also if it helps i have another hard drive that i could put windows 7 on

Solution
just swapping the hdd with the os on it rarely works unless the hardware on both machines is identical.you run into all kinds of hardware driver conflicts otherwise.make sure the os on your install disk matches the one your licence key is good for.once you have downloaded the iso use a program like imgburn to make a bootable dvd.here is a link for your iso.

those links dont seem to work to download to files

You likely changed motherboard chipsets so the old os did not have the drivers to boot.
First make certain you have the original activation code.
You can find it on your current pc by running a free app called "Magical jellybean keyfinder"

I have not tried this procedure, but it might work:

Before you do anything, I suggest you prepare for the possibility of needing to do a clean install.
Run windows easy transfer which will export your settings and files.
After the clean install, you can import all or part of your files and settings. Unfortunately with a new registry, you will need to install your apps that use the registry. Likely all of them.

And... This would be a good time to convert to a ssd.
Clone your current system to a ssd and work on the ssd. You will not run the risk of losing anything from the original hard drive.

well i guess the main conern is where can i legally download a copy of windows 7 home premium 64 bit that actually works. my old computer wont post because i think the motherboard took a poop. so im okay with having to lose all my data. not to worried but i would like to find an actually downloadble copy then i can just enter my product key. none of the Microsoft ones work ive tried them

You will not lose your data, it will be on the old hard drive.
You will need to reinstall your apps.

Buy a ssd to do the install on.
Leave the hard drive disconnected or windows will try to put a recovery partition on it.

After the install, reconnect the hard drive and all your files should be available. You can delete the old windows files.

As to where to download a legit iso, I don't know.

Perhaps you can boron a dvd from someone? They are all the same.

with this one you will have to follow the steps and verify your product key.then microsoft will send you a link to the download.like geofelt said, install windows 7 to your new pc.if you dont have another hdd its recommended you get one as if you do a clean install on your old hdd you will lose all your data.after you install windows you can transfer your data from the old hdd.programs will have to be reinstalled tho.
