Switching from ATI to Nvidia

Hi,

currently I'm playing with a Radeon R9 270x toxic boost. It's a nice graphic card but I need more power. I want to play Crysis 3 or soon available games on ultra graphic settings without having massive fps-drops. (For example when playing Crysis 3, the FPS are pretty much constantly at 60 but when I enter a wide-ranged area or areas with a lot of grass/water they drop rapidly)

Now I'm asking myself is if I can easily switch from my current graphic card to a GTX 970 with 4GB or if I have to make more changes to my system.

Current setup:
FX8350 overclocked to 4.75 gHz, stable.
Asus m5a99x evo R2.0
8GB Corsair Vengeance 9/9/9/24 LP (planning to upgrade to 16GB)

I know that Intel CPUs are better for gaming than AMDs. So i thought about getting a new mainboard and CPU, too, but if I can achieve better results by only changing the graphic card, I would rather save the money.

What would you recommend me to do?

I'd appreciate your opinions.

Regards,
David

sure, you can use a gtx970 with that system and get good gains over a 270x.

there are some situations where the fx8350 could stutter due to having weaker cores (such as heavy 32/64 multiplayer or recording) which would make intel a better choice. that, along with the reduction in heat.

since you are on a budget, you may be best served by getting the gtx970 and trying it out with your 8350. if performance is acceptable then keep it as is. if you test and note any cpu bottlenecking in games then you can at that time make the decision on whether or not you wanted to upgrade to intel. since the 8350/99x chipsets are still in demand you should be able to sell it for a fair price and use that to upgrade to intel if you so wanted though you...

Ok, the R9 270X is a nice card to be honest, and remember that Crysis is most likely the most future proof game-benchmark available, that and Metro games are VERY demanding on highest.
You can easily swap your GPU to a GTX 970 with absolutely no compatibility problems and that FX 8350 will not bottleneck the GTX 970 to a very tangible degree, if you feel it does spend more money but i wouldn't
Don't get 16 GB of RAM, for gaming is money waste IMO.
Cheers :D

Thanks to all of you for your answers.

I have thought of it, Jimmy. But I think I am better off with a GTX, I don't know why. It's just a feeling.

And ssddx, there are many manufacturers selling the GTX though, that I can't decide which one to choose.
Are there things I have to pay more attention to than others? I know that the clocks and stuff matter, too, but are there better and worse GTX depending on if you would for example buy MSI or EVGA?

I am looking forward to finally hold one of those GTX in my hand! :)

Thank you!

David
