Hello! I just purchased an MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G graphics card. I was told I need to buy "cables," since it didn't come with any. I cannot find anywhere WHAT cables I need to order. I am hardware stupid, so please be clear and concise and don't use terms I'm not going to understand! lol I just need to know what to order so this thing can be installed. Thank you!

Here is a picture of your power supply (based on your description)

Across the bottom of the power supply are six 8 pin sockets for powering graphics cards. Since I don't see any evidence that Ultra has extra cables for sale I would recommend you use the E-mail support link on the Ultra webpage. A $200 graphics card (and possible fire) is too expensive to buy a power cord that was not specifically intended for that power supply.

Video cable(s) would be the most likely answer. Your monitor should have included cables for all possible connections it supports. BUT your new graphics card may have different ports. You may need an adapter to get connected. Your powersupply would have included the necessary power connections. If it does not have them, then you probably need an upgrade on your power supply.

I have a Ultra X4 1000 Watt PSU. When My Dad built this machine for me (he passed away two months later), he didn't include any "extra" cables or cords or anything like that. I know my PSU will supposedly support this GPU. Also, here are the other specs currently on my machine:

CPU
AMD FX-8350 38 °C
Vishera 32nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 533MHz (8-8-8-20)
Motherboard
MSI 990FXA-GD65 (MS-7640) (CPU 1) 52 °C
Graphics
SA300/SA350 (1920x1080@60Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 630 (ASUStek Computer Inc) 61 °C
Storage
931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162 ATA Device (SATA) 24 °C
223GB OCZ-VERTEX3 MI ATA Device (SSD)
Optical Drives
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS95 ATA Device

I was told I need "Two PCIe 6 pin connectors that are 12" long" that have the "plug in part on both ends of the cable." I have ZERO idea what that means, and would truly appreciate a direct link on Amazon to whatever that means so I can order the right thing!!!

Yes! That's the exact PSU that I have! Thank you so much for your help. I would never have known to check with them. And the GPU was over $300 through NewEgg, so apparently I overpaid for it, as well? lol thank you. I will email Ultra right now!

If you got it through NewEgg then I don't think you overpaid. I didn't take the time to look up a reasonable price and guessed. Maybe I should have put a "+" after the $200 ... :)

I truly do appreciate your help. I miss my Dad SO MUCH all the time.. but especially when I need to do anything with my dang machine. HE built this sucker, knowing he was near the end of his life. he said "I don't want you to need to upgrade for a long time." HOWEVER! He didn't know that at the age of 43, I'd turn into a gamer and want a better GPU! lol :)

The good news, even if Ultra can't help you, is that a replacement power supply will cost significantly less than your new graphics card. You can probably do with a much lower rated power supply and get one that is much more efficient than the one you have.

Yes. That's the exact form I used. And I received an email to the email address I listed on that form that said the message is undeliverable. I'm about to just buy a new PSU, as soon as I know what I should get. Needs to be pretty cheap though, considering I just shelled out a lot of dough on that GPU. :(

With the rebate this is $60. It is in the recommended power supply list (tier 2A) and should have enough power to last through another impromptu upgrade...

the cables you need are the cables that are connected to the gpu. you just have to unplug the cables from your old gpu and plug in the 6 pin and 8 pin to the new gpu
