Testing multiple recovery software

Hi there,

My Seagate Expansion Drive is corrupted and I've been evaluating several recovery software for evaluation purposes. Is it okay for my data? Will not my data be affected by repeating the scanning process?

I hope you get what I mean.

Thank you very much!

I don't think think recovery software will help on a corrupted or faulty drive, as it's designed for recovering data which has been accidentally deleted and isn't in the recycle bin, provided that the drive itself is in healthy, full working order.

Try it by all means, it won't do any more harm than has already been done. You should always keep your data backed up on another drive or on optical media, then you wouldn't need to rely on any rescue software or a data recovery service.

Backing up data is so easy these days, the choice of backup media is greater than ever. I will never understand anyone who doesn't bother doing it.

Hi Phillip,

Thank you for your response. Actually, I had already laid out a personal back up plan through cloud services and other cheap back up media like optical discs, etc. However, due to the large volume of data that I currently have, I don't have enough time and resources to back up all of those. Furthermore, the data that I had is quite unstructured since it comes from various sources such as work, notes, personal files, downloads, etc.

I was not prepared for the disaster but anyway, it already happened. The only thing that I want to do now is to recover at least 90 percent of the data that I lost. That's why I'm trying to evaluate several data recovery software in the market. Anyway, I just want to have an expert opinion on using these software to scan my portable drive repeatedly.

Thanks once again.

Your only solution might be to phone up the pros at Seagate. They do some high level professional data recovery, and it seems that they are the only solution.http://www.seagate.com/services-software/seagate-recovery-services/rescue/
