Does a Titan X Really Need 24gb of RAM?

I was looking into getting 2 of these to run in SLI when I saw that it said that it needed 24gb of RAM. I was planning on having 16gb DDR4 3000mhz. Should I look into getting 32 or 48gbs?

There is no requirement of 24GB of RAM. The Titan X has 12GB of GDDR5 , 2 of them would be 24GB of GDDR5, but in SLI only 12GB is usable (until DX12 comes out, which may allow for memory to stack).

You will be fine with 16GB of DDR4. What i think you were getting confused about is the amount of GDDR5 the Titan X has, and thinking you needed the same amount (or more) of System RAM.

Actually, it states 24gb required and 48 recommended on the Nvidia website. This may have been a typo but it is on the website.

No I'm completely serious. Wish I wasn't though.

But I see why you would assume that given my name.

The mod on the nvida forum says it is a typo.

That's what I was thinking. I haven't dealt with a card with so much VRAM so I don't know the requirements. It is a little absurd to think it needs that much.
