So I am going to buy a new mobo which supports non-ECC unbuffed memory but i am going to install ECC memory. Will it work?
Mobo : ASROCK 960GM-VGS3 FX

DDR3 dimms have the same pins layout whether they are unbuffered or ECC as far as I know, and I believe you can use either with a compatible processor (e.g. Xeon) and motherboard.
Desktop motherboards and processors support only unbuffered memory though, so you cannot use ECC memory with these boards.

I stand Corrected, Not sure where I read that but after looking up the pinout the spacing is the same being 47mm and 71mm respectively.

What if the board is for a desktop and says it supports ecc ram? example my Sabertooth board says it supports it and has the bios option.

You need support in the CPU and in the motherboard.
If you have a look at the CPU support list for your motherboard, it may support some Xeon models.

I've only seen Intel Sabertooth motherboards, I guess Asus uses this for a lot of different boards.
Desktop AMD processors do not support ECC either, but their Opteron processors would.
