Cat chewed and ruined my mouse cable

I just got a Logitech g400s, and I love it. But my cat decided to chew on the cable and it's almost completely seperated besides what looks like a small strand of string holding it together. I can see the wires and copper and all that. If I strip the wires and connect them to the corresponding color wire will it work fine? I'm worried something as delicate at a mouse sensor would be screwed up by this sort of thing but what do I know. I purchased the mouse less than 30 days ago but I doubt RadioShack or Logitech would cover it because my cat chewed it :{ I'll post some pictures below:

Thanks for any help!

options:

-shorten the cable. since it is near the end where the plug is, you can buy a diy style usb male plug end and just replace the plug. this is fairly easy to do.
-splice. possible yes but not recommended. since we are dealing with fine wires theres a rather high chance of the splices coming apart if not soldered, and if soldered correctly and wrapped you're going to have a rather big nub on the wire. better to just fix it the right way.
-replace cable. a bit more costly than just replacing the plug end, but a viable option if you either cannot buy the diy plugs in your country or need the extra few inches of length on the cable.

replace the plug or the cable. since your cat chewing likely voided the warranty it doesnt matter...

Yes, it will work fine, but I'd solder them, electrical tape on the exposed soldered bits and then use heat shrink to make sure the connections stay - also, it will be as good as new, more durable where it broke.

I think I'm going to just order a while new cable. I took the shell apart and it looks like its fairly easy to disconnect the cable from the motherboard of the mouse for replacement. I think that'd be the easiest if I can find the right cable
