Hello,

I have an 250 GB SSD for my OS but I need to buy large HDD for storage (3-4tb)
I am thinking about WD Red and Black, which one i should go for
also I leave my computer working 24/7 for downloading
I know that black is very fast drive but I need this speed even I have SSD now
also i heard red is very quiet and faster than green
I use my computer for playing games and work on adobe programs also downloading

Solution
Hi again, Redangel!

Actually I think the second drive is from a previous generation, as you Google it, you will it's not available in the current model numbers on our website www.wdc.com
So you have two options, either with or without AF technology.
Advanced Format is a technology that optimizes the HDDs to take advantage of the capabilities of newer operating systems, which results in larger capacities of the HDDs. It basically reads and writes more data into the same available space. WD drives with Advanced Format include special installation information on the drive label so be sure to read the label on your drive before installing it. The WD AF drives are specifically optimized for Mac and the latest Windows operating systems...
Hey there, Redangel!

Congrats on the storage configuration upgrade! :)
However, WD Red is our NAS drive, it is designed to work in RAID/NAS environments. If you put it as a standalone drive in a desktop, I'm afraid you won't be able to experience all its advantages or benefits. It runs with IntelliPower, meaning the RPM algorithms are designed to save power and deliver solid performance.
You mentioned that you play games and use Adobe Software, which is all the more reason to focus your attention on the WD Black instead. It is our performance drive that specifically purposed to be used for gaming and demanding applications like Adobe. It offers 7200 RPM and 64 MB cache, which I guess will give you the performance you are looking for in the secondary drive for your system configuration.
Here are links to the drives' pages on the WD website, where you can see all the details and features:

WD Red - http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Vdu5l0

Hope I was helpful! Let me know if you have any additional questions! :)

thanks for your answers

If I play run my games and applications from SSD do I still need for black, also again I leave my computer working for 24/7 for downloading is black drives gonna handle this?
also I read that there are 2 different drives fro 3 tb black
WD3001FAEX and WD3003FZEX
which one should I get because the stores in my country will sell you any thing with the same price as long as it is name WD Black

also what do you mean by "standalone drive in a desktop" I have an SSD?

If you do plan to play games and run apps from the SSD, then it's not 100 % necessary to buy the WD Black. Even though, yes, it should be able to handle the 24x7 workload since it is also recommended for high-performance workstations.

The difference between those two models is that the WD3003FZEX incorporates the Advanced Format (AF) technology, unlike the WD3001FAEX which doesn't. Here you can read more about AF: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=kikQam

What I meant by "standalone" is that it won't be working in a RAID array configuration, it's going be a lone secondary drive. Which is not something the WD Red is purposed for.

Hope this answered your questions! Let me know if you got more! :)

The WD AF drives are specifically optimized for Mac and the latest Windows operating systems (such as Windows Vista, Windows 7, 8, etc.) with a clean install. Every operating system before those would need the WD Align tool, in order to achieve the full performance of the drive.
I'd suggest getting the Western Digital (WD) Caviar Black WD3003FZEX 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache HDD with (Advanced Format (AF) technology), since I believe you won't be using an older OS version.

Hope that helped! :)
