Hey guys, first time posting. I've had this set-up for 5 years and for the first time i'm starting to get to the point where I can't run games efficiently anymore.

I'd appreciate advice on what to upgrade or to scrap the whole thing and get something new.

Alternatively, a friend of mine has offered me his rig for £650 (including 23" screen which I could really use)

I've got no experience of making my own pc although over the years I've took out the dvd drive to put in a 750v power supply, added more ram and brute forced a spare graphics card in.

His rig:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: XPS 8500
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8156MB RAM
(edit)GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7870

My rig:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: Inspiron 570
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 630 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 16382MB RAM
(edit)GPU: GeForce GTX 560

your mates pc isnt worth 650 not by a long shot.
a good 23inch 1080p screen can be had for under 200 new.
that pc is nolonger sold by dell. so on parts alone its likely only worth 300 and maybe 70 for the screen.
i know its a 3770 but its still second hand so nowhere near worth the new asking price of 220+ its worth about 130. memory is likely a dell preferred partner (cheapest possible for a given speed) same with the motherboard psu and case.
so no mate that build without a decent gpu isnt worth 650 like i said not by some margin.

better to spend your £650 budget on new parts. you will be surprised at what it can buy when you re-use your old hdd's and possibly your memory if its ddr3

Yeah the ram is ddr3, I was planning on carrying that over regardless, so basically all I need is gpu and cpu? Could you recommend anything for around £400?
