Hello everyone!

So just as the title says, I tried updating my BIOS and now when I boot the computer up, it goes to the mobo menu (something like this http://programming4.us/image/062013/24/11512572.jpg) but I can't select anything. Then immediately after, it goes to a blank black screen with a blinking cursor and remains there.

This update attempt was done using a USB flash drive. CPU was safely overclocked from 3.5 to 4.2 at the time of install. I was worried about not restoring the CPU to stock speed however the installation said everything was completed and to reboot. After rebooting when prompted, this is as far as it'll go, I can't even access the mobo settings to see if the it's running the current version or the old.

If any of you have encountered this or know what I should do, any help is greatly appreciated!

Specs:

i5-4690K
ASRock Z97 Extreme6 motherboard (v.1.3, attempted to update to v.1.7 from website)
2x290X in Crossfire, current AMD beta drivers (was running fine)
16 GB RAM
850W PSU

Thanks in advanced for any input!

take and reset your CMOS as it sounds like the BIOS update was either the wrong one or it didn't take correctly. You will have to readjust your timings again but at least you will be able to get up and running.

Resetting your BIOS sets it back to stock settings it had when it came from the factory but it does not make any changes to your windows files if that was part of what you were asking. Your manual probably gives you the details on how to update your BIOS but google and youtube also show how to do it. Here is an easy step by step tutorial. http://www.7tutorials.com/how-update-bios-your-computers-motherboard-5-steps.

Alright, after removing the CMOS battery and waiting a while and plugging it back in, looks like I'm up and running again. Looks like there were a couple of issues that caused me to run into problems

1) The computer was not recognizing my keyboard. It was powered but for some reason, couldn't accept input from it. It's a K70 RGB and I've heard there'd been issues within the BIOS for some. My guess is after the update, the CMOS reset and the keyboard wasn't configured like it had been before. Luckily I have a spare keyboard and was able to navigate through the BIOS

2) Second issue which is what I'm guessing what was causing the black cursor screen was that the SSD was no longer visible in the boot order so I had to re-enable it and select it as Boot #1 since my OS is on it.

But now my primary keyboard is functioning properly and everything is as it was; plus I was delighted to find out the update worked so now I'm on the current version. Thanks Dee Kay for all your help and patience! Cheers!

PS, I decided when I had to remove the CMOS that it was as good a time as any to thoroughly clean the inside of the pc so there's a nice added bonus for me!

Now I just need to start overclocking this bastard again >:D

Thanks again!
