Okay so i have 2 psus with me, an rm650 and an hx650, im hearing that the rm650 has bad build quality etc.. and the hx650 is an improvement, but when i look on the corsair site, it looks like the rm has a higher amp rating and quiter fan, also a better fan, and its fully modular with 100% flat cabling.

The hx is semi modular with half flat and round cables, seems to have a higher cap temp tolerance, but older looking fan, older looking design and im just not sure what to use.

I currently am using the RM650

My system specs are, corsair 380t case (yellow) i7 4790k, gtx 980, 8gb ram 2x4gb, 1tb hdd, 128gb ssd. and about 6 fans, with 2 liquid coolers on both gpu and cpu (closed loop)

I just would like to use whatever has better reliability and can handle overclocking i guess, but i really do prefer the rm650 mainly cause it matches my yellow scheme, and just seems like a better psu, i love the 100% flat cables and the fact that it is all matching black cables better fan, etc..

PS: I used to have a cx600 so either rm650 or hx650 is a massive upgrade in psu quality at least
PSS: should i just go all out and buy a corsair AX-i series? psu?

The RM650 will still do a fine job. :D

Actually, it is the other way around. The only relatively good ones are 450/550/650W, which are made by Channel Well. "Stronger" ones are made by Chicony (and 1000W by Channel Well again), and these actually have very poor capacitors.

Tier 2 Class A: Corsair RM 450 / 550 / 650w models (Made by Channel Well Technology)

Tier 3: Corsair RM 750 850w 1000w models (750w and 850w made by Chicony, Poor capacitors. 1000w model my CWT, Poor ripple suppression and horrific tenperatures)

Since a short while, Chicony has stepped up the build quality of their power supplies and they are now sold with solid capacitors, better than Channel Well Technology in my book and also a Tier 3 power supply in Unit for both the RM 450-650 and 650 and up.

Tier List 2.0 *THE UPDATED ONE*

The RM650 is no longer that bad. It's still considered tier three but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

I just ended up selling the hx650, i called corsair and the rm650 is actually newer, has a better fan, more power delivery on the amps and all, plus i feel it looks alot better, and its fully modular!

Hi guys, I bought a Corsair RM650 today (May, 16), did not setup yet, but after reading this topic, I'm kinda concerned. Should I run and return it right now? Or isn't too bad? I will use it with a MSI B85 Motherboard + I3 4150 + MSI GTX960 + 1 SSD + 1 HDD.

Please help me, I'm scared.

Scared? Why? You will have no problems at all.

Your system will use like 380 watts max.
