Might have just fried my onboard sound!

Being new to setting up motherboards and cases, i setup a new case with my motherboard, and i plugged the 'HD Audio' female pin connector into the 'speaker' pins (Instead of the aafp pins which it should be in)
This worked for a long time. Until i tried to plug headphones into my case headphone jack, as soon as i plugged them in, my computer crashed, and turned off immediately, and i could smeel a burning sound that smelt like fried computer.

The computer still works fine, however the case and main (back) audio input don't work at all, however my monitor can still produce sound through HDMI.

So did i fry my onboard sound chip, or not. If i did, what can i do about it aside from buying a new motherboard?

[EDIT]
I also tried removing all my sound drivers and restarting. HD audio is enabled in my bios too. No avail.

Okay so it's fried then :/
So i'm assuming my monitor just has its own sound card then.
Thanks for the help , i may buy a sound card, however I've just realized that my monitor has a headphone port in it, so i may not bother buying one yet.

[EDIT]
Ok nevermind, doing this just horribly distorts the sound, i will buy a cheap sound card off ebay. I'm assuming it probably wont have a port for case outputs.
