Hello! I would like to know if my laptop (Acer E1-572G) can be outfitted with another hard drive using a 9.5mm HDD Caddy.

This is the caddy in question:

http://www.amazon.com/WoneNice-caddy-9-5mm-Universal-DVD-ROM/dp/B004Y8SGXW

This is my laptop specification:

Acer Aspire E1-572G-74504G50Mnkk

Processor: i7-4500u
RAM: 4GB DDR3L
Storage: 500GB HDD
Motherboard: Acer EA50_HW

Drives:
SATA 6Gb/s - for my current hdd
ATAPI - for my DVD Drive

Will it work with my laptop? And does it matter if I put in a 1tb hdd with 7200rpm or 5400 or an SSD?

Welcome to Tom's Hardware, dathack!

Since the caddy says it's compatible with your laptop, I think you shouldn't have any issues with it.
As for the capacity or speed of the HDD/ SSD, it doesn't really matter, it just needs to be a 2.5" drive in order to fit in your laptop.
Here's a tutorial from the community that might help you with the whole procedure:

Hope this helped! :)
Good luck & let me know if you have any additional questions!

Thanks SuperSoph_WD!

A final question would be in regards to my laptop's ATAPI DVD connection, is it compatible with the caddy? Sorry if my questions seem noobish lol.

Your laptop is a rather new model, the optical drive (CD/DVD ROM) should be connected via SATA , not ATAPI. Can you check this before ordering any caddy?
However, there's another thing I just noticed that the caddy is SATA II (3 Gb/s). I'd suggest you to get a SATA III (6 Gb/s) one instead, especially if you plan to use it for an SSD.

I'm glad I was able to help out. Keep me posted though! :)
