What would be a better graphics card for gaming?

I'm building my first pc and I think I'm doing pretty good with the parts, except I can't decide what graphics card I should get.

MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx970gaming4g

PowerColor Radeon R9 290 4GB PCS+ Video Card: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/powercolor-video-card-axr92904gbd5ppdhe

I would like to play my games on high or ultra settings at 1280x1024 or higher.

Is the GTX 970 worth it, even if it goes over my budget by $50.00 (I would only have to wait about 2 months, I don't mind if it would help me in future games) Or should I just go for the Radeon R9 because it's cheaper and I can get it quicker.

Games I play: Spintires, BeamNg.drive, Need For Speed:Most Wanted, Black Ops 2,

Battle Field 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

And what size PSU should I get if I CrossFire any of these cards in the future?

I found a EVGA 850W PSU for $65.00, if you think that would work.

Here's my pre-build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/46GksY (1TB hard drive + Case + CD thing)

Thanks!

Well I say go for the GTX970 and drop down to a decent 550w PSU. This may allow the extra headroom to stay in budget. 850w is overkill big time for the r9 290x or the GTX970 and the motherboard you selected does not support SLI or Crossfire so there is absolutely no need for 850w. Look for an XFX, Seasonic preferably, and some models of EVGA's PSUs. Certain models are better than other with EVGA, but for this system they would even be fine as long as your not overclocking. ;)

I can see your point, but I'm planning on keeping this computer for a long time and I figured this would help me keep playing and new games I throw at it

What are the specs of the rest of your system first off then? Please include the make and model of power supply you have as well. I don't want to recommend something that will be horribly bottlenecked, or may go over what your current power supply can handle. ;)

Here's all the specs/components you need (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/46GksY)

I already have a case (Corsair 200R) and a 1TB hardrive and a CD drive

Thanks for telling me about the motherboard, I must have missed that it doesn't have SLI support. Thanks for all your help!!

If I get the R9 290 and a new motherboard, and that 850W PSU, and Crossfire, would that be better than the single GTX 970?

290 crossfire would even beat a Titan.....When it works properly that is. ;) 850w is enough for 290 crossfire, but for 290x crossfire I'd recommend a 1000w unit instead.
