i have wired up a PC fan to a USB port on my computer, what will happen if the two fan wires touch? will this damage my PC?

i was just wondering if the red or black wires touched if it would short circuit and damage my pc? thanks

so only if the two wires touch? is it best to plug the fan into an external power source?

Why wouldn't you use a MOLEX power supply plug adapter? Is this an external fan? It is definitely safer to use an external power supply, just need a 500mA power supply.
