PC is only recognizing AMD FX 8350 4 cores/threads

I recently installed a new graphics card and was wondering why my PC only recognizing 4 cores/threads and 2 cores/4 logical processors. I go to the boot options and it only allows me to use up to a maximum of 4 cores. Is this a result of installing my CPU after installing Windows. I'm also currently using Windows 8.1. Any ideas to fix this would be appreciated. I also have an MSI 970 Gaming motherboard, which I looked up and seems to be compatible with this motherboard.

Have you contacted MSI? And do you have any bent pins on your CPU?

Haven't, but all the pins were fine when it was installed.

It might also be the chipset. It is an older chipet. I would contact MSI to see if they have heard of this issue before.

I ended up with a similar problem when moving from an Intel i5 to an Intel i7. The core count was correct but the thread count was wrong.

A re-install of the OS cured the problem completely.

Well, that seems to be a pretty big way to fix something like that. Could you just update the BIOS to the current version to see if that fixes the issue?

Could you have the number of CPUs limited in the Windows startup? Could you have parked 4 cores to steer processing to the 4 physical cores?

Working on updating the Bios right now. Hopefully this has some effect.

The OS is responsible for allocating system resources to executing processes so if the OS only sees 4 Cores and 4 Threads then you are not getting the maximum potential from your CPU.
