I'm hoping someone can help, I'm panicking here!

I was checking the inside of my PC for dust, and turned the PC back on after, but my Hard Drive wasn't showing up anywhere!

So, naturally, I went through the basic troubleshooting (change SATA port, power cable, etc.) but to no avail. It's not showing up in BIOS either which is very concerning.

The Hard Drive doesn't spin on at all now. I'm just hoping I didn't knock it and break it.

Everything's plugged in correctly and I've double checked.

Specs here:

It's an alienware board because I gutted my old Alienware (yes, ripped off I know) and put the mobo, RAM and CPU in the new build.

Drivers are all up to date.

Hello, zadaby!

I'm very sorry to hear about your WD Green drive. :(
I'd suggest you to try plugging the drive on another computer as a last resort, see if it will get picked up there.
I also strongly recommend keeping backups in the future to avoid the headache of data loss.
If the WD Green is totally undetectable anywhere, I'd suggest you to get in touch with our tech support and send out an RMA request (If the drive is still within the warranty period).
Here are the contacts: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=ujwT35
An article from our KB on how to RMA your product: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=H4OUXi

Good luck! Hope this helps!

Is probably dead. But is always worth trying the drive in another machine with a different set of cables to confirm.
Otherwise pull out your backups and restore the files to a new drive.
I've had two drives fail in two weeks now, backups saved us both times (just the basic Win7 built in backup function as well).

Reseating the power cable didn't work. Unfortunately I have no backups as the drive contained 400GB of steam games.

Although much more common decades ago, since you aren't hearing it spin up, another possibility (however unlikely) may be "stiction;" the spindle motor is stuck at a magnetic dead spot or caught up on a failing bearing. You might get it to work again (at least long enough to back up) by removing the drive, then quickly twisting it about the spindle axis to move the platters out of their current position. Remount the drive and try again. The odds of this applying to a modern drive are low, but it seems worth the check.

Hello!
I'm sad to hear about your hard drive.
There is a few ways that I can think of to fix your problem.
1. Check to see if the SATA cable is still plugged in to the motherboard and the hard drive, if yes go to 2, if no plug them both in.
2. Get a new SATA Cable and plug it into the board and the drive.
3. Try a new SATA port on the board and plug the SATA cord into the drive.
4. Reset the PC by unplugging the main power cord in the power supply.

Hi everyone,

thank you all for the answers.

Unfortunately the hard drive did indeed die, and has since been replaced with a WD Black 2TB HDD.

I will take more care in the future, and certainly make backups.

Thanks again!
