Samsung website has several downloads available for the EVO 840 SSD including the Data Migration Software, Magician Software, Performance Restoration Software, and the Firmware Update ISO but it does not indicate a sequence or dependency for these. Other details are lacking, too.

In other words, if I use the Performance Restoration Software, which begins with a firmware update, then it seems that I don't need to use the Firmware Update ISO. Is that true?

Is the Firmware Update ISO the same f/w level as what the Performance Restoration Software will update to?

This is a raw drive, that is, it has never been installed. (I've been busy...) But it is a pre-October 2014 model so the firmware is the old, buggy version. The only step I can skip is backing up my data... So here's my guess of what steps I need to take and in what order to take them.

1. put the drive in and boot up windows
2. run the Performance Restoration Software, updating the firmware.
3. Probably run the Magician Software software so it can report on the "health and performance", set attributes...
4. Data Migration to get my C: drive over to the SSD...

Does that sound about right for a sequence of this process? Missing from my sequence above is the Firmware ISO update, my assumption being that the Performance Restoration Software will do it for me to the correct level.

Thank you.
