Hello, I have an HP Pavilion a6745f, and recently purchased an ( 8GB Kit, DDR2-800, PC2-6400, Non-ECC Unbuffered 240-pin 1.8V CL-6 ). I am having much difficulty getting my PC to boot once I install them. I should mention, I already have a Crucial & an OCZ 4GB set that I was using ( 8GB, total ). I wanted to replace one of the older sets with the new one. When I install both sets (new & old) which brings the total to 12GB, the PC stops at the HP Logo screen and goes no further. I tried using the new set by itself, and the PC started up normally. I even tried using "one" of the older sticks ( from each set ) with the new set, which made the total RAM 10GB, and the PC started up ok. But, I'm seriously thinking that the specs don't match completely. I just can't get the machine to boot using the new set with either of the other sets. What could be the problem? The MB is a MSI MS-7548 Aspen, BIOS by Phoenix Tech. 5.08, 12/2008. Thanks for any help.

Solution
They probably aren't compatible, and with prebuilts they seldonm allow for voltage or timing changes to help get sticks to play together, for 12-16GB best bet is probably to get a set of the full amount of DRAM you want rather than mixing, and just as a guess I'd say 667 DRAM
