I am fixing a laptop for my girlfriend which is a Toshiba L500 -018 Satellite.
The computer ran perfect till I got my hands on it (of course). The fans needed to be cleaned out extremely bad so I took it all apart gently and got down to the fan. I unscrewed the fan and unplugged it from the board. Cleaned out 1000lbs of dust and installed it back. I put the whole laptop back together after that and turned it on to see if It would over heat and it was perfect. Booted and logged in I shut it down to install the last few screws. Once I put the rest of the screws in I went to turn it on again. It was plugged in so the green charging light was on and then when i pressed the power button the power light (green) was also on. I noticed the screen was completely back and 13 seconds later exactly (I timed it three times) it shuts off. The fan only spins for maybe 2 seconds of that time and sometimes not at all. I am so confused and I guess that's what she gets for buying a Toshiba. I've fixed many computer problems before but I can't seem to solve this shit. Anyone know whats up?

Sounds like it's over heating. I would put some new thermal paste on it and see if that helps. Also, going into the BIOS and turning the fan to always on might tell you what is wrong with it as well. (Putting it to that would be way overkill but that is just to see if the fan or cooling is the issue)

Correct. Before she brought it in to me it was giving her a message that was pretty much telling her to shut the computer off immediately cant remember what It said at all but it sounded to me as a overheating problem so after I put all the parts back on from cleaning up the fan I was able to turn it on and use it and there was no message popping up so I figured I fixed it and it was a job well done. I shut it off again and put the screws on bottom that needed to be put it then I turned it back on before giving it to her and my face was un-describable when it wouldnt turn on and the screen was black. not even the back light was turning on.

If my mind serves me right this was the message that was given to her. Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service. I hear the satellite versions are famous for this message.

I tired applying so semi-new thermal paste because I am no where near a spot to get that and no luck and yea I tried that as-well. I took the battery out held down the power button for 30 seconds then placed the charger in and turned it on. no luck
