for now, just 1080, but i would like to keep open the option to move up the res in future. So maybe 2x GTX 980. Thanks for the suggestion!

I had 2 R9 290's in my last build, so i might go with that again. But still open to suggestions! :) thanks!

change the PSU to a EVGA B2 G2 or P2 they are made by superflower best PSU OEM

change the CPU cooler to a swifech one they make the best LC ( and u can modify it later AFAIK)

change the RAM to 16GB 32 IS overkill hell 16GB is overkill for games

for GPU titan X SLI or 980 SLI

also check the enthoo luxe for a case it looks BAD ASS !

For 1920x1080 the 2x R9 290 you already have are awesome. It would only be worth going up to a single Titan X or GTX 980 SLI if you had three monitors or 4K.

Personally if I was you I would be holding on to that R9 290 crossfire GPU setup and then waiting another year for Nvidia Pascal to upgrade. The R9 290 in crossfire is already so awesome that you will be spending a lot of money for an upgrade you won't even notice.

1080p = 2k.

I want to slap the marketing jackass that came up with "4k" it just causes confusion. You know it wasn't an engineer that coined that term.

to be more consistent:
1080p (2k)
1440p ("2.5k")
2160p (4k)
2880p (5k)

If you can wait a few months to build you PC, the 390X will be debuting. AMD cards perform better relative to the Nvidia counterpart at higher resolutions largely because of greater memory bandwidth, and the 390X is using a new "HBM" memory technology for gobs of bandwidth.

Money doens't appear to be an object, but freesync monitors are considerably cheaper than Gsync as well. the 390X release will also push video card prices down across the board.

Cheers!

Ah yeah, well you will get a performance boost with a Titan X or 2x GTX 980.

However when are you expecting to buy? Do you mind waiting a few months?

AMD is naming all their future plans on the 7th of May, and the flagship R9 300 card with HBM looks like it may even beat the Titan X in gaming and will probably be around the same price as a GTX 980. However I probably would only buy the water cooling version if it is a 8GB card as rumored. That HBM memory will get very hot stacked up to 8GB.
Hopefully they announce a water cooled version with two R9 390X, called the R9 395X. That would be perfect for you.

I didn't mean to offend anybody by using common display resolution acronyms. Most people will refer to 1080p as full HD, 1440p as 2k, 2160p as 4K and 2880p as 5k.

I find this chart handy, but 2K means a whole bunch of things. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution#/media/File:Vector_Video_Standards8.svg

2K can even mean 2048 × 1536 pixels if you look it up in google.

I like my maths so 2560 x 1440 is roughly 1.7x the resolution of 1920x1080.
Personally, I don't see the point of 4K on a monitor less than 40 inches. My eye sight isn't good enough for that.
But I can definitely see the appeal of 1440p.

Ah. That makes sense. I would probably recommend a single GTX 980. Easy to power, easy to cool and has plenty of ability to handle 2x1080p monitors.

EDIT: Oh wait, three monitors?
Maybe the R9 295X2, or if you want something easier to power and cool then a Titan X. Both have plenty of VRAM and bandwidth to cover three monitors. GTX 970 in SLI might hold you back a bit across three monitors compared to the R9 295X2.
