RAM or Mobo?

Hello guys, i'm having an issue that's driving me crazy.

I'm having problems with my ram and mobo configuration...
Basically, my mobo won't recognize more than 4 gigs of ram (i've got 8 installed), while it recognised 8 just about last week (i've changed nothing since them).
I tried seeing if one of the ram sticks was faulty by trying to start the PC using them one by one, they are apparently alright when checked individually.
I first thought one of them might be faulty because whenever I tried one of the sticks in the A1 slot of the mobo, it wouldn't start up (Error 53), but if i moved it to A2 it would. No error either if both of the sticks were in their slots combinations (A1 + B1 or A2 + B2). So basically, I don't know what to think anymore.

This is driving me nuts, i don't know what is wrong, Mobo or RAM? :(
What can i do to check? I'm not sure if I have a spare pair of RAM sticks to check the Mobo.

Your description of testing has me a little confused, what it sounds like is slot A1 is not working. What slots was the ram in when it worked? When you put ram into A1 and B1 (or A2 and B2) it boots but only shows 4GB?

A1 slot works if A1 and B1 are both occupied, but BIOS only recognizes that one 4Gb module is in A1. You might think that the RAM stick in B1 is faulty and that it's not being recognzied... But it's not the case, as that "faulty" stick magically works when i swap them.
A1 doesn't work if just one of the modules is installed.
This is really weird...

Ok I got it now. Did anything happen like a BSOD, overheat, something like that between when it worked and when it stopped working?

Sounds like the MOBO is fried to me as well, but I wish you had some other ram to test it with to be sure.

It seems to me highly likely something is wrong with the Mobo, the only way to test it would be with a couple of known working memory modules.

That said, I would try pulling the CMOS battery and making sure you have the latest BIOS, then re-doing all your settings. Are you overclocking? I would make sure its all stock. Its all worth a shot to start.

Hello again,

I tried pulling the CMOS battery, after that it kept recognising only 4 gigs of ram (8 gigs installed). I did some restarts and now magically, it's recognising 8 gigs again... Do you guys really think that a faulty mobo could do this? I mean if it's faulty it would or would not work right?

Yes it seems as though due to a voltage fluctuation the NB is not working the way it should. there are ways to correct the voltage on NB.

But before all that please post CPU-Z screenshots of Memory tab and SPD tab by selecting the corresponding memory slot,
which will help the us analyze the problem better

Hmm I kind of suspected this would happen. As parthtrivedi said I agree as well may be an issue with the NB on the board.

Now that its working, go ahead and run CPU-Z like he asked and lets see if we can figure out if its fixable or permanent.
