After humping my old machine from 2006 till today, I'm finally in a position to purchase a new rig for myself. I used to have some semblance of know-how when it came to hardware, but I sadly feel I'm out of my depths in this current market. And so I turn to you guys for help.

Budget: An acquaintance of mine recommended this price range to me. He told me that if you were to spend more than this you'd end up paying a lot for small increases in performance. That's why I chose this range. I'm flexible, but it's important that I get the most bang for my buck, so to speak.

Needs/Uses: This is meant as a pure gaming pc. Sure, I watch some films and stuff, maybe I edit a little, but I figure any decent gaming PC already can handle those tasks. I'd also like to stream occasionally to for example Twitch. Another thing is that this machine is going to be sat in my living room, so it can't sound like a Boeing is about to take off every time the machine loads something. My current rig already sounds like a freight train when idle, so I'm figuring any new PC would be less noisy, but I thought I'd just mention it.

OS and peripherals: I already own a copy of Win 7, not looking for a new OS. I'm also gonna keep my K70 keyboard and my Blackadder mouse. Everything else I need.

Other: As mentioned it's been a while since I last dug around inside a PC, so I'm not sure where I stand on overclocking. If this is something you guys feel would give me a not so insignificant increase to performance while at the same time being relatively easy, then I'm all for it. If not, I'd like to keep things simple. I've also had some less than stellar experience with my current AMD gpu, so I'm thinking I might try Nvidia this time around. Also, dunno how relevant this is, but I live in Norway.

Any and all help would be most appreciated. I don't even know where to begin on this process, so I'm hoping you can provide me with a good starting point, a complete solution, or just some pointers as to where I should proceed.

Cheers!

Since you're in Norway, I don't really know where you buy your parts from. Here is what I would recommend.

Most people will tell you to go for the i5 4690k + Z97 mobo + cpu cooler, but I don't think it's worth it.

It's £72 more to be able to overclock. I don't know if it's worth it to you.

Thank you so much, mate. I've just ordered my new rig and used your suggestions as a guideline. Much appreciated :)

+1; This is a great build for the price!
