I have the CPU lined up inside of the socket, but when I go to close the load lever it is really hard to push down, should I push it down or did I do something wrong?

If you have the CPU properly aligned and you've taken out that black socket protector out, then you should be fine.

CPUs are surprisingly quite resilient. As long as the CPU is sitting level on the socket and the notches in the processor line up with the "tabs" on the socket, you should be fine.
