Hi, so basically my PC has a 6 core AMD processor, an R9280 GPU, 8GB of Ram and a 550w power supply. I use 3 screens. Recently for a couple of months now my PC has been very slow, I have had problems with:

- After entering password to login it takes a good 2-3 minutes for the desktop to load (Stays on lack screen for ages)
- General sluggishness when not doing anything that intensive (Sometimes very slow just surfing the web)
- A few freezes and crashes

I did a full virus scan with a paid antivirus which showed nothing and I have updated all my drivers .
Can anyone advise me on what else could be causing this sluggishness? Would more RAM help?
Any help would be massively appreciated!! Thanks,

Sam.

I imagine this has very little to do with memory - but it wouldn't be a bad idea to check memory usage in Task Manager. Anything below 50% is acceptable. This sounds more like a hard drive issue to me, especially as you indicated it takes a long time to load to desktop.

Does this computer use an HDD or SDD? If it is an HDD it may need defragmenting - or the drive is just getting slow with age.

Thanks for the quick reply!
My memory usage is under 50% and yeah I've had the PC just over year and it uses a HHD, it's 1TB and almost full (183GB free) so I'll try de fragmenting it.
I didn't think a HDD could affect a PC's speed hence why I didn't think of that, thanks!

I think it's a corsair something or other. I only just got the R9280, I was running the GTX650 but I still had similar slowness troubles
Update: Its a corsair RM550 :)
