So i just bought the motorola surfboard ac1800m modem/router because i upgraded my internet to a 105mb plan. So i just finished setting it up and ran i wired test and it still maxed out at 70mb. Im not really sure what all can make the connection worse or better, but does that sound about right? because i know the plan is an UP TO 105mb so im not guaranteed the plan speed anyway.

Also my ps4 gaming is still really laggy and the ps4, wireless connection, is saying its only getting 20-25mb. Im under my modem and have 2 walls between us i know that can slow it down.

And im looking to get a new pcie wireless adapter for my desktop and was thinking about getting this, http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Band-Wireless-AC1900-PCI-E-Adapter-PCE-AC68/dp/B00F42V83C, would it be worth getting this? because right now trying to get a wired connection to my desktop is impossible. unless id get like a 100-150ft cored and do some serious maneuvering to hide the cord from the 2 cats in the house.

And we have a ton of devices connected, 3-4 phones, 3-4 computers, 2 tvs(smart tv's), and 2-3 gaming systems at a regular basis. And i know this is a killer.

But what could i do to make the connection better?

I guess it depend if you actually have a need for 105m. In most cases you are limited by other things well before you hit the capacity of your connection. Many site put artificial limitation on download rates...otherwise the guys with 1g google fiber connection could block everyone else out.
You might be getting errors on your connection to the house but it could also be your neighbors all watching netflix. I would be happy with 70mb unless you really feel you have a way to use that much.

Games tend to need less than 1m, they know many users are on crappy DSL connections and design the games to get as many customers as possible. If you are getting 20-25m you have more than enough bandwidth. Your problem is likely wireless...

Two things you mentioned is a problem. First as you stated the plan says up to 105mb so i'm assuming you are in an area that 70mb is what you got. As far as your router it is located in a bad location. I was once told to think of your wireless signal as a mushroom cloud...meaning in your case you need to have the ps4 in the same room as the router or have it in the room above it. Honestly after rereading your post I think you have a firm grasp on why your connection is bad. Poor router location and up to 13 devices hooked to it is your killer.

If you are getting 20-25m you have more than enough bandwidth. Your problem is likely wireless interference which causes packet loss and packet retransmission delays. Games are extremely susceptible to these type of errors which is why it is never recommended to play games on wireless. Wireless is extremely hard to fix, most times it is signals coming in from outside your house that you can do little to block. All you can really do it try other channels. You would likely get better results using a powerline network device rather than wireless to play games on.

okay so pretty much my modem is in the worst possible place for me then? because its in our kitchen with the main computer, and all my personal stuff is in the basement/my room. So if i could move it to the basement that coud help then? Also im fine with the 70mb just wondering what i could do to try and get a better connection.

[strike]Are you testing it with a wired connection?[/strike]

Oops re-read OP.

Try at different times of day. If you don't get full speed, contact your ISP, because they should guarantee that speed that you purchased.

Also be sure your cable (the wires) are in good condition, and you're not using cheapo cables. I'm not saying go out and buy $50 monster cable, but don't use the ez slip on connectors, use a good cable with the connector you have to screw on. Also just check to see they are attached finger tight. If they are even a bit loose, that can cause issues.

yes i was using my laptop sitting 2 feet from the router with a wired connection on speedtest.net and i was getting max of 70mb. And like i said the plan i buy says UP TO 105mb/ps. So i doubt i will ever frequently get 1005mb but id like to get at least 80mb out of the 105. also i have coax cable that connects to my modem then just an ethernet cord, that came with my new modem, hooked into the laptop from the modem. Im trying to find a way to move it down into the basement and see how that goes.

Does your speedtest laptop provide gigabit lan?

Another (better than wifi) option to get connected would be power lan (homeplug), e.g.
devolo dLAN 1200+

ask your ISP/MSOs (internet provider, cable operator), if there is a problem with your connection between modem and the isp.

That cable is good enough. Just not something that came out of BillyBob's Home Cable Creation business.
