This build would have overclocking features compared to @LucoTF build. You can change the Noctua cooler to a CM Hyper Evo if you will not be overclocking that much. I highly recommend Seasonic over Antec, just a personal preference.

Thank you guys, much appreciated, but could you tell my why should I go for an i5?
Is it better to have two 4gb sticks of ram instead of one 8gb?
the Antec HCG 520w will be enough? shouldn't I go for a 600+w?
Is there any reason I shouldn't go for de cooler master HAF 912 case? it doesn't look that good but for what I have read, it has lots of space and very good airflow, and newbie friendly haha

I know the Intel/AMD is a very debatable question, I just get the feeling that Intel is overpriced and I keep forgetting which ones are the latest generation.

About the GPU, I chose the r9 290 cause it's $279 in newegg, $250 after the rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127774
should I go for the GTX 970 anyways?

Also I'm buying Windows 7 home premium, I prefer it over Windows 8 :) and i'll get a free upgrade to Windows 10 anyway

i5 is generally the best proc for gaming currently since it can handle almost all AAA titles just depending on your GPU. you can go for an i7 since i believe you're gonna be playing CPU-intensive games but i think the cost is too much to justify the performance. But comparing intel i5 to an AMD FX then definitely Intel is the way to go.
2x4 GB would give a little boost since it will be on dual channel
520w is enough to power the system, the one i built would draw around 350w-400w depending how high you overclock.
haf 912 is a good case, if you want something simpler to build on, an NZXT s340 will be a good alternative.
GTX 970 is in a lot ways better than the r9 290, most important is power consumption.
