Running graphics card signal thru motherboard hdmi socket

Hi all hope that title makes some sense. I've just upgraded my graphics card from one that runs off vga to one that runs through hdmi, but the hdmi socket on the graphics card doesn't align with my computer case. Essentially the graphics card can only go in one spot (single PCI x16 slot), but with it in this position its hdmi socket is obscured by a metal lip on the outside of the computer case.... So can't plug the hdmi cable in. Annoying.

There is another hdmi socket that connects to the motherboard itself, which is unobscured, but which doesn't send a signal to the computer (ie my monitor reads 'no signal' when I plug its hdmi cable into this socket) - is it somehow possible to run the graph card's hdmi signal through the motherboard's hdmi socket?

Hopefully that all makes sense, and isnt too stupid a question. but let me know if you need more info.

Thanks in advance,

Jay

Solution
Not as far as I know, the motherboard HDMI socket is hardwired to the onboard graphics.
Can you upload a pic of the problem?
One solution would be to remove the card and file or cut away the obstructing metal but it's unusual to have a port blocked like this, there may be an even simpler, and safer, solution.

It would be helpful if we knew some hardware specifications.

What case are you using?
What graphics card (exact model) do you have?
What motherboard (exact model) do you have?

As coozie7 states, an image of the problem would also be quite useful.

Thanks guys. Couldn't find case model, but motherboard is gigabyte h55m-s2h and graphics card is Radeon r7 240. Here are some pics showing (1) obstructed hdmi socket on outside of case, adjacent to graphics card, (2) unobstructed hdmi socket on outside of case, adjacent to motherboard, and (3) inside of case.

If it's too tricky to run through the motherboard slot then grinding away the obstruction sounds like an easy fix.

Cheers

decided to go ahead and grind off the obstruction with a dremel - only took a few minutes so quicker than hunting down the specific graphic card details!. HDMI cable now fits in fine.thanks for the help
