Is says that the Pentium has a slightly lower performance than the i3, but the cost of the pentium is wayyyy more... Why?

Solution
the i3 isn't manufactured any more. you can't buy a new one even if you wanted unless you find old stocks which isn't very likely or you buy second hand. the price was probly a sale sometime when they were clearing out stock to make room for the new i3 3xxx series.

it's a good deal to buy the i3 instead, sure.

Yes I know these are laptop CPUs, it's mentioned in that screenshot, "CPU class: Laptop", and the CPUs have 'M' in their model#, but does it make a difference? Both are Laptop CPUs, not like I compared a Laptop CPU with a Desktop CPU...
The i3 is indeed much older, but since it beats the Pentium in performance, I see no reason as to why it should cost less. A new CPU which is worse than an older CPU, should not cost twice as much the older CPU (IMO).. You could be right though, laptop components have weird prices, a motherboard costs like $230, outrageous. But i think sincreator has a better explanation, they probably just messed up the prices.

I actually have a laptop with that exact same i3, and i can take it out of the motherboard... 4 screws to remove the heat sink, and then 1 screw to remove a CPU retainer lock-the CPU comes out of the laptop....
Laptop is an HP probook 4530s energy star, HP part number XU015UT#ABA.
