Hi there. My old AMD radeon HD 6950 card recently burned out so i'm looking for a new GPU for gaming.

My specs are:
AMD radeon HD 6950 card
Intel quad core 2 - 2.83 GHz
8 GB ram
Motherboard: Intel LGA775
Powersupply is 750 Watt at max (model: H750E-01)

Which GPU would you guys recommend?
Ps. It's alright if the GPU bottlenecks the card a little bit, since i'll probably upgrade my CPU in the near future.

I went from a 6950 to a 960 (also fans don't spin on desktop < 45c idle and single 6 pin on my asus). Pretty much doubled my FPS in most games.

If you want something more future proof I would say the 970, if you can afford it.

I wouldn't bother with now available 4gb 960's. They are just too expensive right now, might as well go with a 290 then (just sigh AMD why are your cards so hot and loud).

Thats a bit too expensive for my taste. I'll only be using it for games like CS:GO, League of Legends and wow. I player the demanding games on my ps4 :)

Well my price range is between 200-300 dollars. I will probably also buy a new cpu with the GPU since i just figured out i will earn alot more than i expected next month. but keep in mind that i wont play demanding games on my pc! only games like LoL, CS:GO, WoW etc..

Alright guys, since my cpu is so poor, ill probably be buying a CPU on top of that too. My budget is 2000-3000 danish kroner (around 200-350 dollars).
My psu and motherboard is like 7 years old so let me know if i need to replace it or if its good enough for another upgrade.
keep in mind, i wont play demanding games on this pc! Only games like World of Warcraft, Counterstrike and League of Legends!

Why do you say that? Anyways, which card do you recommend, if i'm not going to upgrade my cpu?

What he's trying to say is your budget won't be enough for the upgrade coz once you upgrade the cpu, the mobo and ram follows. Plus the issues of windows 7 reinstalling on a new mobo.
The best thing to do is just upgrade the gpu. Since you have a quad core cpu, bottleneck will still be there but tolerable. Just get a low power consuming card like r7 265 around $130. It will play your games fine and won't tax your 7yr old psu.

Is it better or worse than my current GPU?
And thanks for the help!

The R9 285 would probably be the best choice.

It's being sold by some vendors for less than $200, so should be well within your budget. Much better card than an R7 265. CPU shouldn't be too much of a problem with it. Low power requirements keep it easy on the PSU... Yeah, the 285 looks like a solid option.

I'll buy that card then!
One more question if you mind;
If i get crashes when playing games and often this type of crash: http://i45.tinypic.com/24xoyg2.jpg
is it something to do with my GPU being broken or what?

You can try bunch of test here and there but for a system as old as yours, i recommend fresh install of windows. Then if its still happening then hardware or gpu in particular can be a suspect. We would know until you do a fresh install of windows.
