maximizing my lan speed (slow router)

I'm living in a dorm where we have Gbit Lan going to all rooms. For privacy reasons I have set up a router (TP-Link WR1043ND) and connected the WAN-Port to our dorm lan.
The problem: My router seems to only be capable of 100MBit WAN but I need for some devices Gbit connection to the dorm LAN as well as connection to my room network.

My router setup is not as much for security as it is for ease of configuration, so I want to be in my own subnet - security would be nice but I trust the others in the network enough not to try to hack my stuff.

What would be the ideal way to approach this? Here are some ideas I gathered:
a) buy better router
b) buy a second switch and change the cables when needing gbit speed to the dorm lan
c) somehow create a subnet without using the WAN-Port (not quite sure how to do this at the moment)
d) connect everything to the dorm and set up a vpn

The specs for the router you have seen to indicate it has gigabit ports.
http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-9_TL-WR1043ND.html

Now by adding your own little network you are isolated from the others on the network(good thing, but not if you have to access any other resources[but should still work in many cases]). Just using the WAN port should make a decent isolated network without doing anything else. Remember anything you do on the internet still runs in the schools network and can be tracked by IT if needed. So follow the rules :)

Any device communications within your dorm should be at gigabit speed if the devices support it.

It has Gigabit LAN, but not WAN.

EDIT: In the specs it says Gbit WAN but I think the processor limits it to 100Mbit, that is at least the speed I get out of it.

Actually I am in charge of the dorm LAN, so the one tracking me would be me ;) (only because there is no one in our dorm with any more knowledge in IT than me which is sad...)

EDIT: this is not a dorm belonging to any school but just a shared flat of 12 students, i was not sure what the correct term in english would be.

The internet speed is 150Mbit but this is irrevelant since I'm not testing via internet but via LAN.

I started an iperf server on my laptop. When plugged in into the router in my room I get full Gbit, wenn plugged in into the router on my floor (so right after the WAN) I get 100Mbit (exact), when plugging the upling cable in the switch (not the WAN) I get full Gbit. So it is pretty clear that this is due to my WAN-uplink.

After searching for answers I also found some infos about people not recommending the router for internet speeds higher than 100Mbit due to the WAN port.
