Howdy,

I Am using an i7 4790k currently running at 4.5ghz turbo boost hooked up to a H100i liquid cooler and i am looking to get a few more fps in games such as arma 3, as they are very cpu intensive games.

My question is if i was to overclock it and increase the voltage could i get it to 5ghz safely? I Know every chip is different and no 2 are the same but if you could provide me with a general idea taking into consideration the fact my case is extremely well cooled and that i have a water cooler, then that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your time:D

I7 4790K @4.5GHZ (Stock voltage)
GTX 980 4G OC @1250ghz
16GB RAM @ 2133GHZ
Samsung 840evo SSD 250GB
WD 1TB
Corsair RM750W Platinum certified PSU

Since I don't have an i7 4790k I had to look it up, seems with the i7 you can do what is call core unparking which someone said netted them a 20 FPS boost in BF4, I would try doing this first.

It seems like most 4790's top out around 4.8Ghz but this also falls under the CPU lottery, to get the best performance out of the cpu you will have to do voltage and temp testing to see how far you can push your cpu. One will give out before the other, I would not push past 1.25 volts or 75*c on the cpu. Like I said ether you will ether hit the temp limit or the volt limit before you hit the targeted 5.0Ghz.

To get the most out of the CPU don't leave the voltage on auto, the motherboard always gives more volts then what is needed.
