Computer won't work on dual channel

Hello, I recently upgraded a friends computer and the setup ended up like this:

CPU: Intel Core i3 3240
RAM: 2x HyperX Fury 4GB DDR3
M/B: Asrock z77 Pro 3

The first problem I encountered was that apparently the i3 3240 didn't support 1866 Mhz.
Second one and most annoying is that while I can run the fury's at 1600Mhz on a single channel (after tweaking with the timers etc) I can't seem to manage to make it work on dual channel. Tried making it boot on a 1333Mhz dual channel,still no luck. Is this normal?

Are you using the right slots? The ram sticks should be separated by one empty slot. Normally the 1st set of slots to use are the one two spaces from the CPU and the last slot farthest from the CPU.

For sure I tried it on 1 and 3, can't seem to remember if I tried 2 and 4, too much testing back and forth,kinda lost track.

Well that ought to have done it. Could potentially be something wrong with the CPU, or it isn't quite in the socket correctly, but that is a bit of a stretch. I would expect to see other problems if that were the case.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS, the Fury aren't like most sticks (that use XMP) they operate off PnP, so it may be a BIOS this

Already checked the BIOS, seems to be the latest one. I'm leaning towards a cpu problem or maybe dead memory slots (but the computer would at least post, just reading one RAM,right?)
