Hi there,

I decided to treat my aged but trusted PC to a little RAM upgrade, but unfortunately I can't get it to boot. I've spent the evening trawling around the internet and now I'm frustrated and muddled with everything I've tried. It would be fantastic if someone with the necessary knowledge could point me in the right direction.

My humble PC has a Gigabyte GA-G41M-Combo board, Pentium E5400 and 4GB DDR3 (2x2GB). I wanted to up the RAM so bought some Kingston HyperX Fury - 8GB DDR3 kit (2x4GB). More details below but both sets of RAM are badged as 1333 yet the Fury won't let my PC boot even though I've tweaked every possible setting I can think of. What I know (and could be a key part of the equation) is that the Combo board likes 1333 RAM if OC'd. My old DDR3 was badged as 1333 but runs at 1066, 800 and 667 (I'm assuming) but the Fury DDR3 seems to 'start' at 1333 instead.

Old DDR3 - MT8JTF25664AZ-1G4D1 (Micron)
New DDR3 - HX313C9FK2/8 (Kingston HyperX Fury)

I've read numerous articles about adjusting CPU clock ratio, host frequency, frequency latch and SPD settings. And I've tried a differing number of combinations but without success. But if I'm honest I'm not 100% certain on what all the different settings do (never played with MCH frequency latch or SPD before!)

Thanks for reading, and please... put me out of my misery...

Jonty.

The Fury operates off PnP which isn't supported in mobos prior to the 1155 socket. Would return and get some sticks that will be compatible, or if beyond the return period, might contact Kingston and see if they can do anything in the way of an exchange
