I'd like to know what temps are good and how hot is too hot. I have HWMonitor and it's great - if you know which temps are good and bad.

I have 2 Asus STRIX GTX980's in sli.

Solution
Well actually your gpu temps are ok for a gpu fan that barely spins. It you want to cool it down, you can use mis afterburner or asus gpu tweak and setup a fan curve. It will make more noise if that bothers you

HWMonitor says my 980's are idling at 50-55c. I played AC: Unity at max settings for about an hour and the highest it hit was 70c with an average of 64c and a low of 52c or so.

Played some more Unity and I checked and realized I read it wrong before. 55c min and 79c max.
My house isn't all that hot. Wife has the space heater running constantly though.

Someone suggested I use MSI Afterburner and put the fans on a curve? I have no idea what that means. I do have an MSI mobo, so should I be doing that? I know the strix's don't even run the fans unless under heavy load, which is nice on the ears, but I'd rather it be loud and safe than quiet and hot.

You can try and if it gets a bit loud, you can always put it back to default setting. As I've said you can use msi afterburner or Asus gpu tweak to make a fan curve. Heres to give you idea how to do about it
