I purchased 4 4gb ddr2 sticks. All four work but not at the same time.

I tested the sticks by plugging them in 2 at a time and they work for a week with no problems. So all 4 sticks are good.

I've tried 2 of the 4gb sticks with 2 of my older 2gb sticks for a total of 12gb and the computer works fine. Take out those 2 4gb sticks and plug in the other 2 and it still works fine.

I can plug in any 3 of 4gb sticks and 1 2gb stick and the computer continues to work fine with 14gb total.

Whenever I plug in all 4 4gb sticks the computer runs but blue screens about once an hour.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Thanks,
John

Couple of thing probably 1) did all four sticks come in a single package? If not they may need adjustments to play nice together, and 2) to run 16GB w/ four sticks might have a weaker MC (memory controller) (this is very common on AMD rigs, not so much on Intel, but it happens, may need a bit of extra voltage to the DRAM or the MC - What mobo, CPU and model #(s) of the DRAM?

Thanks so much for answering.

They were all in the same package. I do have an AMD motherboard. How would I crank up the voltage? Is that something that can be done form the BIOS?

Motherboard: M2N78-LA (Violet)
CPU: Phenom X4 9750
DRAMS: Samsung 16GB 4X4GB DDR2-800MHz PC2-6400 240PIN PC6400 for AMD CPU Motherboard (361131163192 )

Interesting. This page shows it supports 16gb. The computer model is HP p6130f

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-p6000-Desktop-PC-series/3942799/model/3998968/document/c01775369/

And here also

Two web pages on the same motherboard- two different memory configurations.

Computer properties shows 14GB installed so it recognizes more than 8gb.

Windows Task Manager (Windows 7 Home Premium) shows Total physical memory 14335 MB. The Resource Monitor shows Installed 14336 MB

Well there was a BIOS update but there are no controls for timing or voltages. I guess I'm stuck with a max of 14 GB, but that's not bad. I have noticed a performance improvement since upgrading from 8 GB.

I do believe it is a power issue. I'll bet with the four 4 GB modules plugged in there's just enough additional current required to pull down the 1.8V. Too bad I can't do anything about it.
