Its time to upgrade. I am an avid gamer and a lot or FPS games. My last upgrade was my GPU (R9 270X). With my current build, what would your first initial upgrade be?

My budget is around $500 or so.

Thank you!!!!!

I apologize, here it is.

Thanks.

Yeah that is a very old system by now, I suggest upgrading to a I5 4690K and a Asus Pro Gamer Z97 or Gigabyte/MSI Gaming mobo.

Thats what I have been researching. I have read into the i5 4690K and it shows it only supports ram speeds up to 1600 and not 1833. Why is this?

Getting a new GPU is also a good idea (however I personally wouldn't do it), however please don't buy the anniversary edition mobo's. If your paying that much for a mobo then get something decent like a H97 Pro4.

I have nothing against the H97/Z97 anniversary, but they literally have the exact same features (and nothing more) than a B85 chipset motherboard, all that's extra is OC support.

Well "technically" it's 1600mhz, but you can easially get 3000mhz ram and enable the xmp profile. I have 2400mhz RAM with my 4690K and all you do is enable the xmp profile to get it running.

Reason why is because anything beyond 1600mhz is considered an overclock on these CPUs, which is why Intel's XMP profiles even exist, so you can overclock your RAM at the push of a button.
