In your position I would just pick up a Z68/Z77 motherboard on the used market for cheap, much less hassle and you can overclock easily and get the full potential of the 2600k. They compete with the modern i7 4790 when overclocked to around 4.5Ghz.

Roger that. I've already updated to jos.817.rom from 2013. hp won't add any cpu's. they haven't. It's strictly they're customized ami bios support. So while I agree with you, hp says its compatible and should work. foxconn also says yes. Its a side stepping issue as the cpu can be overclocked but the bios doesn't contain the option for multiplier. they can just add the option of 0 to the microcode and bada bing. Done dada. But I guess I need to figure out how to add it myself. thanks anyway
