I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post my question but here goes? My microscope camera I bought on fleabay a few years ago stopped working a few weeks after using it? Ive since re-installed win 7 64 bit on HP P6-2203a with A8550 CPU,8GB ram, 2 x 1 TB HDD. Ive decided to get serious again and try and get it to work. I plugged it into a blue USB slot on the front of the computer and a message came up saying it was downloading the driver. I then tried to find where to click it to start? but I couldn't find anything? Thats including the device manager, imaging devices only had the normal USB camera? Ive tried in the past to download different microscope drivers but nothing ever worked? I'm 60+ y/o, so a bit behind on the software side of things? The microscope has no brand name or markings and the seller has long departed fleabay. When I first plugged it in, it just worked with no CD to download drivers or anything? Any ideas on how I could get this going again would be appreciated.

plug it into a non-blue USB port (USB2.0)

Open device manager, described in the link till nr. 4:
http://www.techtalkz.com/windows-7/515982-how-use-device-manager-windows-7-a.html

Can you see any exclamation marks or question marks or unknown devices?
right click on the problematic device and left click properties
Click Details tab
Select Hardware Ids from the pull-down. You'll see a list of one or more Hardware Id strings

post them

I plugged it into a normal USB slot on the back of the computer but nothing came up in device manager? I restarted the computer and it still wasn't there? There are no question or exclamation marks in device manager either.I tried another USB slot and now it is on device manager! I updated the driver but still cant work out how to turn it on? How do I post the list of hardware ID strings here?

What is an image hosted and how do I post a link of it? Ive looked around but cant find how to upload anything but this text? Ive taken a screenshot in Paint and saved it, I just need to know how to upload it?

@Redrooster,

For a camera being couple of years old (especially microscope), there is a good change the manufacturer never released 64-bit drivers. Most of these companies never cared to publish / certify drivers to MS site either.
So, find an old WinXP desktop / laptop computer, and see whether you can download drivers there. Check also manufacturer' web site for what drivers are being offered for your camera.

Yes, it was working great. I think it may have been corrupted by me using CCleaner to clean the registry? It now appears in device manager and says; This device is working and it has the correct driver? Its just that I cant find anywhere to turn it on? I have another normal Canon camera that I upload photos to this computer through a cable,it doesn't come up on the device manager although it shouldn't anyway? Ive been waiting for an email notification but it isn't working for some reason?

I ran Yawcam and its acting just like malware? I was prompted to choose a program to use for it,so I chose windows media player? Now whatever I try to open WMP, will appear saying it cant download the file including WMP itself? I cant do a system restore or set the program again because of this. All the icons on the desktop and elsewhere have blanked out and I cant log onto Firefox.my email etc....Its taken me all day trying to work this out and I don't know how I got here to post this really,I was trying everything when I noticed the address bar? Any idea how I can get out of this mess?

Well this is just great! The only way I can use my computer is to click start, computer, downloads and enter something in the address bar? Now I have no email or phone because I use Skype for outgoing calls. Do I start another thread to find a fix for this?

The links I gave you are save. Uninstalling yawcam would have been the easiest way to get rid of it, or at bottom right, there should be an icon of yawcam, just right -click on it an "exit"

instead of windows media player you should use java/javascript
up to date java installed yet?

Did you try to load the oldest restore point? That´s the only way your computer is acting so weird now. Many applications were installed since this point were made. All have to be installed again, or you try the newest restore point made of the system.

My computer is acting as though it has a virus? Every time I try to fix it,I'm stopped from doing it? My system image file is empty? C:\programfiles\commonfiles is corrupt and unreadable? But then on the next try they aren't corrupt but it will be something else stopping me? My recovery disk isn't working either? If I had of known that I had to choose Java to open Yawcam I would have,I thought WMP an imaging program would be the obvious way to go? Could I install Yawcam again and choose java this time? would that work?

Instead of waiting I downloaded Yawcam and the latest java update but I cant install either of them. Not through WMP anyway. So it looks like a clean install of windows coming up. I'm sure Yawcam isn't malware but I think that link is suss mate.

Aha! I think I know whats happened now,I uninstalled java before installing the new one! Thats why it seems like a virus. Is there some way of loading the 32 and 64 bit java downloads without java?

Don´t know what you are trying to do. Downloading and installing java is of course possible without java. Click on this link and select java download

https://java.com/download

After you downloaded it, double click on the setup/install file and follow instructions. Evenually a window will appear, which wants to install a so called "ask toolbar" or similar, uncheck the boxes, because we don´t need that, and click ok/continue. Check java by opening this link:
https://www.java.com/verify

What system image file are you searching?

restore point:
http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN85604/EN

Do you have an Anti Virus application installed? Which one? Make a complete scan.

Ive tried over and over again to download and install java? A message box appears and says Windows Media Player cannot download this file? In other words it cant run the file.I can download Java alright but I cant install or run it because of WMP?. The system image ISO is the one the computer was looking for when I was trying to do a system repair and couldn't find it? I checked on my backup HDD and its not there either ? I checked my recovery partition on C:\ drive and that's empty too? My last backup was on 30/3/2015 and that IS there on my backup drive. I use Malwarebytes but of course I cant run it because WMP wont allow it.Do you see now that whatever I do to fix this, WMP stops me from doing it!

Ive mentioned this on several occasions already about trying to restore to an earlier time and Ive said it cant be done? If I click on system restore it says system restore can not be done?(exactly that) and yet again, the message that appears says that Windows media player is having a problem downloading this file?(exactly that) I right clicked properties on a Java install that I have downloaded,it says that it is a WMP file, all my desktop icons are now WMP icons. This happened as soon as I installed Yawcam? Ive always been able to find a way out of these things and fix other computers but this has got me stumped? This is another message I got when doing some troubleshooting. When attempting to save your settings, the following system error occurred 'The task image is corrupt or has been tampered with.

sorry that I asked this several times, but you never clearly said, that you tried to recover it from a "restore point" and what exactly happened after that, like the error message. It´s very difficult to help, if the steps which were done, are not described precisley.

I now installed yawcam from the link I gave you myself, but had java installed already, so it just ran fine, no tampering of anything.

Something tampered your file extensions and now every time you wanna run an exe, wmp tries to start it, but can´t.

which associations are there for windows media player?

The last time I used CCleaner registry cleaner was 2 years ago and since then Ive re-installed windows,Ive explained that before? Ive downloaded the Kapersky rescue disk and burnt it to a CD but it wont do anything? Ive opened the files and double clicked them but all it does is go to more files again and again, the other files in it wont open,a windows message comes up saying it cant open it? Ive tried to open it in WMP the usual WMP comes up saying it cant do it.I deleted that and kept going until a windows message says it doesn't have the codec to open it? I have a WIN 7 64 bit repair disk and a recent backup on a separate HDD drive, could I reformat the C:\ drive and start again somehow?
