Allright so I got here a 4790k system running on a Cooler Master V750S Gold. Currently I have the GTX970 wich I plan to replace with a future NVIDIA line-up of a possible SLI 2x 980TI if the 6gb vram rumours hold to be true.
The recently supposed leaks estimate 980TI TDP at around 250 or about same as the Titan X.
According to eXtreme PSU calculator, with 2x 780TI SLI I end up with 599w minimum and 649w recommended, Leaves for a 100watt headroom.

According to the calculator, I could comfortably do a triple 980 3 way SLI with 645 recommended wattage, and recommending the evga supernova 750G2, wich I don't think is too different from my PSU. Mine is also Gold rating and has 92% effiency at 750 watt.

Opinions on the web varies to ridiculous degrees, from 850 watt, 1000 watt and even 1200 watt coming from forums with borderline tinfoil paranoia about PSU requirements, leaving me wondering who or what to trust.
Will it be necessary for me to buy an EVGA Supernova 1000watt G2 if I want perfect stable system with SLI.

CPU:i7 4790 4.4ghz
Mobo: Z97 MSI gaming 5
RAM: DDR3 16gb 1600mhz CL7
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250gb
HDD: Western Digital 7200rpm 1TB
CPU Air Cooler: Zalman CNPS9900 MAX
Casee fans: 7x Corsair AF120 quiet edition (case is a Corsair 450D)
Fan Controller: 2x Scythe Kaze Master II
GFX Card: Currently 970, will replace with possibly 2x 980TI SLI if 6GB vram rumours are true

Some helpfull responces would be apreciated, Greetings from Holland! :)

I would love to try the 390x if it was up to me, but i got myself into the whole G-Sync mess. Great feature, but its unfortunate that it locks you into NVIDIA.

Eitherway, what would you guys do in my situation? Is there a need to upgrade to a 1000watt PSU? If after the summer releases I could not run 980 TI SLI. I guess the only other option is to wait it out for Pascal chipsets in 2016. Or who knows there will be cheaper less power consuming variant.

Hi - Yes, it is common for folks on the forums to over-estimate wattage needed for CF/SLI rigs.

However, in your case 3 way SLI of 3 gtx 980's with a 750w unit isn't enough.
realhardtechx suggests 950w and they typically are on the high side, meaning an 850
would probably do;

A more accurate estimate would be from guru 3D as they actually test the config, and
they estimate 900-1000w for 3 way gtx 980:

If, however you stay with 2 way SLI 980's then your current 750 will be fine. That's the way
I'd go in this situation.

Yeh i'm not interested in the regular 980's. I will wait for what NVIDIA has next in line. Most likely 2x SLI 980 TI 6GB vram version if we were to believe the latest leaks. Apparently it will have equal TDP to the 780TI or even Titan X, wich is why I compared it to it.

But thnx for the guru3d link. Seems eXtreme calculator is a bit off I guess.

I'm probably gonna change my psu afterall then. I have my mind on Cooler Master V1000, Corsair HX1000i and either EVGA Supernova 1000w G2 or P2. I have my mind mostly on the EVGA for now.

All those you mention are ex units.

Hi, sorry I didn't catch that. Could you elaborate what you mean by ''ex units''? :)

Ah - ex = excellent!
