Verbatim 1.5TB external drive power problem

Hi All

I have a problem when powering up.

Light comes on and will power up and function as normal as long as I keep my finger on
the button, as soon as I release my finger it powers down.

Anyone else have any experience of this or an idea of a cause/solution?

Hey tonks2672. It sounds like there might be an issue with the external enclosure of the drive. If the drive is working properly while you're holding the button, no matter how annoying this would be, I'd suggest that you backup all important data you might have on that HDD and call the manufacturer's customer support if the drive is still under warranty to ask about RMA. On the other hand, if the drive is out of warranty, you could try taking the HDD out of the enclosure and connecting it directly to the motherboard of your computer so that you can test it with an HDD diagnostic tool, just to make sure that everything is OK with it and use it as an internal drive, or get a new enclosure and try if the drive works OK with it. Please note that, taking the drive out of the enclosure is not recommended and should only be done as a last resort. This would also void the warranty of the drive if it has one.
