Hi Team,

I am planning on a project but it's very difficult to manage with the software I am using right now. Please guide me with open source project management software that is user-friendly. I have heard about ProjectPier, dotProject, Producteev, LibrePlan and Redmine. But which one shall I select from these?

Solution
If it must be open source, check out ProjectLibre (http://www.projectlibre.org/).

If you're willing to consider closed source, you might be interested in Open Workbench. You can download the installer from SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/openworkbench/). Or consider this modified/beta version: http://www.itdesign.de/en/support/downloads/#c602.
Read about the history of Open Workbench here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Workbench.

For a list of project management softwares, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_project_management_software.

Unless someone hosts dotProject for you, you would need some familiarity with web server (e.g. Apache), database (e.g. MySQL) and PHP administration. I'm unfamiliar with...

Hope that's helpful!

And just to clarify, source code for older versions (1.1.4) of Open Workbench is publicly available, in part. I don't know if this was always the case, but at some point, CA Technologies (née Computer Associates) closed some of the code (apparently related to scheduling).
I bring this up because some may incorrectly argue that Open Workbench is open source.

We used ProjectPier for a while, and actually liked it, but it was not the best for our needs.
Setting up and installing PP needs basic knowledge of Apache / PHP / MySQL, but there are ready-made virtual appliances for that.

Since then, we moved to hosted solution, so we don't use PP anymore.

I wouldn't call Redmine PM software. Its reporting functionality is non-existent. It's a bug tracker, and not a very good one either, unless you only need to manage one team or teams that have identical workflows and custom field requirements. Add a bit of variety to your business and Redmine will bend to the new requirements like a piece of coal.
