Hello, i just bought i5 4460 and 8GB HyperX Fury (1.5v says on the stick), but when I put them in my PC it wont start. Fans are spinning but nothing else happens, no bios, nothing...

When I only put back my old RAM and leave the i5, same problem occurs. I put back my old celeron and 4gb and the system works, with the GTX 960 installed. I tried to remove the 960, and leave the i5 and 8gb new stick, still nothing happens.

Can it be the PSU? Do i need a new one. I have LC Power 420w, it's a crappy psu i know... Or is it something else?

Thanks

You might need a BIOS update to be able to use that CPU, depending on the exact model of your motherboard. Only H97 and Z97 chipsets support Haswell Refresh chips out of the box - if you have a mobo based on H81, B85, Z87 or similar, you will experience... well, what you are experiencing now ;)

Put your old CPU in and flash the latest BIOS. Then swap CPUs.

As for the PSU, it is a crappy model but this issue has likely nothing to do with it. A replacement is still a good idea, preperably by Seasonic, XFX, Antec HCG or EVGA B2/G2 unit.

!@herr Well i tried removing the CPU and using only the new RAM but i still have the same problem... I will flash the bios tho, and see if that helps, thanks for the response
@Wolf I have Asus H81M-K, i bought it last year, don't want to replace it it fulfills my needs

Is the i5 4460 on the QVL list for your motherboard? You may need a BIOS update for it to support that CPU.
Yes, your PSU is bad. I am very surprised it is able to run a GTX960; no doubt it is on the ragged edge, and may choke, smoke, and croak. Such PSU-shaped objects tend to take other parts with them into the fiery abyss, so I'd stop using it and replace it ASAP.

Im from europe, I can only buy cooler master, chieftec, TT psu. I only have around 50$ to spend, I already spent all my money on components...

I will still try flashing to see if it resolves the problem

@EDIT my motherboard DOES support the i5 4460, just checked on intel website

It should resolve your issue. However, after a few months you could end up with a fried PSU and potentially other components with it. This could in the end cost you much more than a PSU itself.

PSU is the basis of each build. If you must, be cheap on the CPU and GPU, in fact on everything elase, just not, ever, on the PSU.

Just checked my bios version and it says its version 304. The oldest xD
I will update to the newest one in a few minutes and see the results

I will buy a new PSU, i planned that. Im already making money. Will buy it in like a month, or so. I am well aware of the risks

I'd use a lesser graphics card than the GTX960 until you replace that PSU-shaped object.
Your PSU choices appear very limited. CoolerMaster will likely be near-junk, especially at the low end. I'm not really familiar with Chieftec, although judging by http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page873.htm they are not among the worst; especially if it has some level of 80+ certification, it is probably at least half decent.
Thermaltake's older units are of similar quality to CoolerMaster (i.e. liar-labeled near-junk), but some of their newer ones are also okay-good.

I have finished flashing my BIOS, and the problem with the i5 is resolved. However, my new ram doesn't work. When i put it in, either the fans start spinning, and the PC restarts itself, or just runs fans just spin but nothing happens. I guess I will need a new PSU to use the new RAM, right?

Thanks for helping out!

@EDIT
Will try to remove the GTX960 to see if the RAM would work then. If it does, ill get the new PSU ASAP

You might need to clear CMOS (unplug the computer from the wall, and remove the battery on the mobo for a few minutes than put it back - or use a jumper near the battery labelled CLR_CMOS). You might have setting for old RAM stored so it is best to reset all settings to defaults. Do not mix old and new sticks, use just new one. A good idea is to first try with only one stick, then just the other one. Pay attention to their location on the mobo - read the manual for your motherboard to determine which slots you need to use for 2 sticks. It matters!

I have removed the GTX 960 to see if the ram would work, but i get the same problem...
I removed the CMOS battery to reset the bios, waited for like 30 seconds and put it back but the ram still didn't work. I tried both slots as well..

I will try the ram at my friends house to see if it would work...

Any ideas?? Should I return the ram and ask for a new one>?

I have tried literally everything.
Removed the old ram, reseated the whole PC, removed the CMOS battery and waited for like 5 minutes, tried both slots, no luck
Only thing left is to try it on a different system...

I never intended to use both sticks. One is already on sale. The 4GB one. I bought 1x8gb stick to use alone, but it wont work. I tried every slot, i tried everything it wont work. I tried both sticks together, no luck again

Apparently when my friend put my ram into his PC all he is hearing is rapid beeping. My pc Doesn't have speakers, thats why we didn't hear it at my home. What does this signal mean?

Yes, I'm not seeing any reason why it would not work in your PC.

Just to confirm, you have the new processor installed and if you install your old 4GB RAM module, the system boots, but if you remove the 4GB module and install the 8GB module, the system fails to boot. Additionally, when you install the 8GB module into your friends computer, it also fails to boot. Is this correct?

Yes, you are correct.
We both have the same PSU tho, so I'm still doubting that. But that's unlikely...
