I have my audio wire plugged into the back of my motherboard. All of the audio related software on Windows 7 and the control panel show audio levels moving and such, but no audio coming from my Acer monitor.
i'm also running win 7 64 bit, and had the same issue with my DIY - ended up issue was solved when i re-installed the driver 3 times - first two it didn't take, each time i un-installed the driver and then re-install. On the 3rd attempt (a hail mary attempt) i didn't bother un-installing, and bingo, i had sound

my monitor is an asus monitor but yes, it has speakers (if you can call them that - i think they're about 1 watt per, and if you crank volume up sounds like a small crack addled duck is being choked)
