Samsung SSD is detected in BIOS, but not in disk manager at all

I installed my SSD and immediately looked in the BIOS to see if it had appeared. It did, and it was listed as "Samsung 850 EVO 120GB SSD" which is correct. However, when I boot into Windows 8.1 off of my existing HDD, the SSD does not show up in disk management at all. I tried clicking "rescan disks" in disk management but that did nothing. I can see my HDD just fine in disk management, but the SSD does not show up at all, not even as unallocated space.

One thing to note is that I have my HDD and SSD installed in the 1 and 2 SATA3 ports rather than 0 and 1. This is because my GPU blocks the SATA3_0 port. But that shouldn't change anything...

1. I assume you've accessed the Samsung Magician program. Reports the drive's health is OK?

2. The SSD is listed in the Disk drives section of Device Manager?

3. What happens if you reverse the SATA connectors for the two drives? Same problem - the HDD boots OK but the SSD still not detected in Disk Management?

4. Do you have another SATA data cable you could try for the SSD? If not, could you try swapping the SATA data cable connectors of the two drives?

1. Samsung Magician doesn't detect the drive, because it requires that the drive is formatted first. I can't do that if it doesn't show up in disk management.

2. No

3. Nothing changed

4. I don't have an additional SATA cable, but I did switch the cables and my HDD still works fine, meaning that both SATA cables are fully functional.

I assume you're working with a desktop PC. What is the make/model of your motherboard?

Could you set your motherboard BIOS/UEFI to Optimum setting?

Is there any chance of installing the SSD in another PC to determine if it's detected there?
