I just installed a new hyper 212 evo on my AMD fx 8320, on a ASUS m5a97 r2.0 mobo. After the installation I tried to boot up but the only thing that happened was all fans and leds turned on. Nothing displayed on the monitor, no post beeps, nothing. The computer was working fine a couple days ago before the installation of my new cooler. Any help is much appreciated.

Went through the checklist, did everything. #23 I didn't quite understand, I take out all ram unplug hard drives, optical drives, even front panel connectors? My speaker is not making any beeps. Before installing the new cooler I did dust out the case using a compressed air can, if that has anything possibly to do with it. The hdd light on the front of my case is not on like it should but when I listen to my hdd it sounds like it is spinning up. I'm really pissed off right now and need some more help.

You're sure everything is plugged in? Especially the CPU power?

You removed the motherboard to install the cooler? If so try taking it back out and trying to boot it outside the case ( breadboxing it ) to rule out a short.

Were you careful with applying thermal paste with the new cooler? You didn't goop it on or anything?

Everything is plugged in. I did not remove the mobo because in my case has a cut out to install coolers without the need to remove the mobo. I just put a "pea" sized gloop in the middle and put the heatsink on top and press down a bit. I saw that method on a yt video and it seemed like it worked well. If I did put too much could it have spilled over and caused some problems?

It's possible but if you truly just used a pea sized amount I would doubt it. Some pastes are mildly conductive though and can cause a short. Do you have a system speaker? Many newer builds do not.

Is your power supply modular by chance? If so did you check the connections at the power supply its self? Make and model of the PSU?

Were you careful to not over tighten the cooler?

It's possible something just decided to die and that will make troubleshooting a massive PITA.

My next step would be breadboarding as described in the link above. Also remove and reinstall the cooler outside of the case to be sure of no thermal paste leaking out.

I just used the paste that came with the cooler master cooler, and I do have a system speaker for post beeps. My psu is not modular and its a corsair cx500. All components in my pc are only 1 year old. I don't think I overtightened it... I did the method of tightening the screws across eachother to get equal tightness. Thanks for the help and please keep it up, I need all the help I can get I just built this pc 1 year ago and it's been great until now. It's late where I am so I'm gonna get some sleep, I'll check back here for replies tomorrow.

The Corsair CX series has quality issues. Do you have a multimeter you can check it with? How to do so is described in the no boot thread I linked above. That stands out as a potential issue although not a huge one. What graphics card are you using with it? The CX does not like to be stressed and they die early when they are due to substandard capacitors.

Next step after checking the power supply is to take it out and breadbox it.

I reseated gpu and it didn't fix the problem. Im gonna take the cooler off and inspect the cpu more carefully to see if there are any bent pins I missed. I think I have a multimeter I could check it with but isn't that kinda dangerous? My gpu is a r9 270 btw

I think I just spotted a mobo stand off that I may not have removed. However the pc has never had this problem for the 1 year I've been using it. Maybe tightening the new cooler pushed the mobo down so it's touching this piece? Idk but I'm gonna try to take everything out and remove the standoff. Is there anything I should do while I have the components out of te case?
