I have a nighthawk r7000 netgear router , I've had perfect almost ethernet worthy connection until my parents got a new computer for them , and moving the router and attaching it underneath a marble desk ever since these events my connection has been awful and frustrating with random lag spikes. I was wondering if moving the router is causing the problem or there is something else.

Solution
It is highly likely moving the router causes more signal to be blocked. It takes very little to block wireless signals. Your microwave oven operates on the same 2.4g frequency and puts out 1000 times the power but all the signal is completely blocked and you can still see thought the front glass.

The router should be placed as high as possible in as central a location as you can find with as few walls or other obstructions in between. Unfortunately for many reasons the router can not be placed in the "best" location but putting it under a desk or in a closet is one of the worst places for it.
