I have a strange encounter with my emails & windows Live Mail though. I cloned my HDD onto another HDD as a backup. I then coupled the cloned HDD to my computer. When I started up my computer, to my surprise all my emails as well as my contact list were gone, nothing left on my computer. Before the HDD cloning process, copies of all data including email & contact list were always stored on my computer even when I cloned the HDD (I mean, that is one of the reasons I clone the HDD, right, to keep all my data as well). I then signed in to windows Live Mail Server with the same email address and password as before and everything re-appeared i.e. contact list & all emails, even the old emails I deleted and those I marked as junk.

Fine, right?? No!!

Now, every time I shut down & restart Windows Live Mail (or even the computer), all the emails & all contact lists had been removed from Windows Live Mail on my computer and then Windows Live Mail will download approximately 4000 emails from the Windows Server!! This is not only slowing down my machine, it eats up my capping and on top of it all it is annoying.

This process keeps on repeating itself over and over again, I tried the settings in Windows Live to stop this strange behaviour but with no success. Now I wonder, what caused this behaviour in the first instance and how do I stop this strange behavour from occurring over and over again??

Prior to this strange behaviour, I never had this problem when cloning a HDD. Windows Live Mail previously would download my saved contacts & email messages from the Widows Live server only once, and then only the newer email messages would be downloaded onto my computer whilst the older email messages & my contact list would stay on my computer. But this does not happen like this anymore. I use Windows 7 Home Ultimate 64bit operating system.

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: I think I found the answer to the above mentioned problem with Windows Live Mail 2011 - I went through every setting and I found one that says: "Default Messaging Programs - This application is the default Mail handler - Make Default" and I just activated it to be the default and no more loading of 4000 email messages every time I start up Windows Live Mail 2011.

How to get to this setting in Windows Live Mail 2011: Click with mouse on the little book icon in the upper left corner of Windows Live Mail 2011 to open the drop down menu. From this Menu select Option, Mail, General Tab. Right on the bottom of this Tab there are two buttons named "Default", activate them both (Click both of them) to make Windows Live Mail 2011 your Default Mail & News handler. Then Click on Apply & OK. Done!
